Cosmetic surgery breast enhancements, although commonly associated to women, are also applicable to men. In fact, more and more men are going under the knife to tone and enhance the appearance of their chests.

Unlike decades ago, today’s statistics of cosmetic surgery show that physical enhancements are now sought for by individuals of both sex groups. Indeed, the need for physical improvement as well as the confidence and well being that cosmetic surgery usually produces are true to both men and women.

Cosmetic surgery breast augmentation refers to a cosmetic surgical procedure to enhance and improve the size, shape and overall appearance of the breasts for women and the chest for men.

There are two types of cosmetic surgery breast enhancements. The first one and the most common is breast enlargement and the second one is breast reduction.

Women with small breast sizes and men with small or weak looking chests are good candidates for breast or chest enlargement. Silicone implants are used for both procedures, breast implants for women and pectoral implants for men. For women, the incision can be made in many different areas such as the areola, under the breasts, the armpit, or the umbilical area. For men, on the other hand, incision is made in the armpit area. As a result, women can expect bigger, more shapely, and better defined breasts while men can expect a more defined and contoured chest area.

Breast reduction is also a procedure offered for both men and women. Women who suffer from the condition of gigantomastia and men who suffer from gynecomastia or pseudo-gynecomastia have much bigger breasts compared to what is considered normal; thus they are good candidates for breast reduction. Breast reduction is typically performed by removing excess fat from the breasts through liposuction. Excess glandular tissues are removed by making a tiny incision in each breasts.

All of these cosmetic surgery breast augmentation procedures are out patient surgeries and done under general anesthesia. If you think you are a good candidate for this procedure, talk to your surgeon and make sure that your present medical condition or medication is not incompatible with the procedure.
