The eyes are the first to show tell tale signs of aging. Signs of wrinkles first form around the eyes and the formation of eye bags as well as the sagging upper eyelids create an overall look of tiredness and aging. Eyelid surgery can remedy this problem and help you avoid looking old and worn-out. A more rejuvenated and younger looking appearance can be achieved after this surgery.
What is Eyelid Surgery?
Also known as blepharoplasty, this surgery improves the form and texture of the skin around the eyes by eliminating the signs of eye bags, sagging skin and wrinkles. This surgery can be performed on either upper or lower eyelids, or both.
Depending on your preference or needs, you will be placed under either local or general anesthesia prior to surgery. Incisions are then created, placing careful considerations on natural creases and other areas that will conceal scars better. Thereafter, fat deposits are removed or repositioned, muscle tissues are tightened and excess skin removed. The incisions are then closed using removable sutures, skin adhesives or surgical tapes.
Who are the Right Candidates?
Individuals who are at least 35 years old with baggy or sagging eyelids due to aging are good candidates for cosmetic eyelid surgery. However, undergoing these surgeries at a younger age may be recommended by your surgeon if symptoms are already apparent by reason of heredity or injuries.
What are the risks?
Whether you have had cosmetic surgery abroad or at home, you can expect to experience pain and soreness around the eye area for a few days after the surgery was performed. Anti-pain medications are usually prescribed to help alleviate the discomfort. Also, bruising and swelling around the eye area are normal post-surgery conditions. Like any other surgical procedures, cosmetic eyelid surgery may also cause complications which may include bleeding, infection, abnormal eyelid folds, and incapacity to fully shut the eyes; however, occurrences of these complications are rare.
