Male Cosmetic Surgery – Enhancements aren’t Just for Women

Women may be popularly known as the vainer sex, but men are definitely not left behind from the physical enhancement craze. In fact, men are trailing close behind the women’s numbers. Male cosmetic surgery may not have gained popularity until this past decade, but its number is continuously growing year after year.

According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic surgery, the most popular male cosmetic surgery procedures are: hair transplantation, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction, botox injections and breast reduction.

Perhaps, of the 5 most popular procedures for men, hair transplantation can be considered as the one that was specifically designed for men. Men are more prone to losing hair than women. In fact, a good number of the male population suffers from premature hair loss which makes these unfortunate individuals look older and less capable than they actually are. Thus, to remedy this condition, more and more men are resorting to hair transplants.

With recent developments in cosmetic surgery, another player has entered into the male cosmetic surgery market: “muscle” implantation. Bulging muscles can now be achieved through silicon based implants. Implants are inserted in areas where bigger and more defined muscles are most attractive such as the chest, abdomen, thigh, and calf areas. Although these implants do not improve the muscles, their insertion makes the muscles in the specific body parts look like they are highly defined and toned.

Another procedure that is gaining in popularity among men is chin implantation. Chins in men have always been seen as a reflection of one’s character and personality. Thus, a stronger and more pronounced chin is desirable for men who wish to exude a strong and persuasive personality.

If you do decide to undergo one of these male cosmetic surgery procedures, be careful in choosing the right surgeon and make sure that he or she is qualified and experienced to perform the procedure. Also, pre-operation consultation is very important. Consider it as an opportunity to discuss with your surgeon the questions and concerns that you may have regarding the procedure. Do not forget to inform your surgeon of any existing medical conditions and medication that may have adverse reaction to your procedure.
