Nose reshaping cosmetic procedure is also known as rhinoplasty. It is considered to be one of the most common cosmetic procedures, along with face lift and body contouring surgeries. Unlike many other plastic surgeries, rhinoplasty does not involve complicated techniques or long and complex procedures. It can be as simple as repairing a crooked nose bridge or adjusting the size of uneven nostrils. However, its results can be dramatic in improving the overall appearance of the person.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that involves the reshaping of the nose by altering its natural shape and sculpting it into a more flattering form. The biggest consideration of rhinoplasty is to create the right shape that is proportionate to the face in order to achieve symmetry and balance which, for most cultures, defines what is beautiful.

Nose Reshaping Procedure

The procedure varies depending on the structure of the nose or the shape that is intended to be achieved. Common steps include an incision through the skin of the nose. There are some simple corrections where the surgeon merely removes excess skin and stitches back the remaining skin to form the desired shape.

There are also procedures that require the skin to be separated from the bone and cartilage that comprise the supporting structure of the nose. Once it is accomplished, the bone and cartilage are sculpted to the desired size and shape. Thereafter, the skin is molded over the supporting structure to finish the nose reshaping procedure.

The procedure usually does not take more than two hours to finish and patients can immediately go home after the surgery or remain in the cosmetic facility for an overnight stay.

Recovery

Recovery after nose reshaping procedure usually takes 2-3 weeks. Expect your face to look puffy and your nose will be bruised and ache. Medications are normally prescribed to patients to provide relief from pain. Contact sports should be avoided for a longer period than the recommended recovery time. Consult your surgeon about any strenuous activities you want to attempt.
